History
Okeechobee County Airport, formerly
known as Connor Field, was originally constructed as a
military airfield used for training bomber pilots. This
facility was deeded to Okeechobee County in 1974 through
the War Assets Administration.
During the mid 1990's
extensive upgrades were made to this 864-acre airport
including the installation of radio controlled runway
light and navigation aids. A new airport terminal,
featuring a full service restaurant (Landing Strip Care)
was constructed in 1988 together with an extensive apron
area. A new Chevron Fast Pay, Self-Service, fuel farm
was constructed in 1999 offering a 12,000 gallon 100 LL
and a 12,000 gallon Jet A tank. A 20,000 sq. ft.
maintenance and storage/office hanger was
constructed in 2002.
Current projects include the
installation of a new AWOS and $200,000 in apron
lightning. The construction of new box, corporate and
t-hangers for monthly rent and/or long-term lease, is
expected to commence during the fall of 2005.
